In 2005, Rita Wilson—who was already a bona fide film producer and actor—came across an interview in which Oprah decisively stated, “I know what it is I want,” when asked how she built her media empire. Oprah’s response struck Rita to her core, prompting her to ask herself a question she had never given herself permission to consider: “What is it that I really want?” To her surprise, her answer wasn’t producing or acting. It was music.
